August – Gastroparesis Awareness Month

· Andrew Yang · Blog

August is Gastroparesis awareness month. Let us start by gaining a basic understanding of this diagnosis. “Gastroparesis, also called delayed gastric emptying, is a disorder that slows or stops the movement of food from your stomach to your small intestine, even though there is no blockage in the stomach or intestines”

Like Taniya, many more individuals suffer from this diagnosis and many others. This blog is just another initiative to help raise awareness and inclusion not only for disabilities but also for a medical diagnosis like this.

While everyone’s health is unique to their own circumstance and lifestyle, every diagnosis has some symptoms. Some of the symptoms of Gastroparesis may include:

  • Heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux (backup of stomach contents into your esophagus).
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting undigested food.
  • Early satiety (feeling full quickly when eating).
  • Abdominal bloating (enlargement).
  • Chronic abdominal pain.
  • Poor appetite and weight loss.
  • Poor blood sugar control.

There is more to gastroparesis than just a simple definition and some symptoms. As difficult as the medical situation might be, there is help available.

Please read the helpful article and find connections to helpful medical facilities.
